Song - Turn Around

TURN AROUND

Left my job and quit my band
Grabbed a fistful of damp Atlantic sand
Looked out at the giant sea
Born and raised, I’d always been here
But there’s a whole country out there
It was time to turn around and leave

I got to Cleveland, was supposed to be a hole
But the riverbanks hosted many a wise soul
I worked for three weeks on a warehouse dock
I dated a girl whose daddy was loaded
But when he saw my hair and tats, his head exploded
I felt like a cameo in my own movie, just a Hitchcock

Ended up in Nashville, livin’ in a kitchen
Of a speakeasy where everybody was bitchin’
But we got what we needed, free food and liquor
More drugs than food was goin’ through
Then the cops busted it and spilled the stew
I felt like a corpse in a morgue, but a little bit sicker

A Kansas City dancer had me in total awe
My fistfight ended in a draw up in Omaha
I cheered with fans and cried with mourners
From Route 66 gas stations
To Wyoming’s Wind River Reservation
Decided to make my way to Four Corners

I stood in Nevada, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico
All at the same time, but got arrested though
For crossin’ four state lines with a joint
My cellmate in jail for forty-eight hours
Said, “Son, use ‘em or you’ll lose your superpowers”
So I made it driving all night to LA’s Stoney Point

And then I took a long time, staring at the sea
After a while, it occurred to me
You can walk a thousand miles and meet a million souls
You can fix a billion problems and fill a trillion holes
You can eat exotic foods and drink your way to pearly gates
But you wake up back on earth, where reality awaits
‘Cause where the finite ocean meets the infinite sky
If you say it’s different than the one you left it’s an infinite white lie
After your journeys and schemes, despite your vows and beliefs
Your ending is where your doppelganger recently chose to leave

Because
It’s just another salty ocean
Yea, it’s just another salty ocean
Yes, it was just another salty ocean
It’s just another salty ocean
Yea, it’s just another salty ocean
Yes, it was just another salty ocean

I stood for as long as my legs would allow
As the tide came in and out of this new shore
What else was there to do now
Except turn around and leave once more

Got on a ship to sail the world
With a beautiful Indian girl
Who said she had to show me her blue sea
But she said she didn’t want to trick me
So I should I know that it would be

Just another salty ocean
Yes, just another salty ocean
It was light over there when it was dark over here
But it’s the same way to sail and the same way the steer
Across another salty ocean

Because
It’s just another salty ocean
Yea, it’s just another salty ocean
Yes, it was just another salty ocean
It’s just another salty ocean
Yea, it’s just another salty ocean
Yes, it was just another salty ocean
It’s just another salty ocean
Yea, it’s just another salty ocean
Yes, it was just another salty ocean
It’s just another salty ocean
Yea, it’s just another salty ocean
Yes, it was just another salty ocean
