In A Sec

We’d drive around, no place to go
That was freedom, though we didn’t know
Hangin’ on a corner
Talkin’ about how he adores her
We’d grab pizzas and a 12-pack
We always had each other’s backs
Stayin’ up till sunrise
Hit the diner with all the guys

When someone’s dad said, “Hey do me a favor”
We’d always say, “Hey man, in a sec”
The chores and the homework always came later
First thing’s first, I’m talkin’ to my friend
If it’s a coach or a teacher or maybe a neighbor
First thing’s first, I’m talkin’ to my friend
“Kid, I’m talkin’ to you – what the heck”
Hey man, you heard me – in a sec

We grew up, but only a little
Adult lives, but with friends in the middle
Keepin’ close to stay real
Through the triumphs and the ordeals
Our girlfriends turned into our wives
Our summer jobs became our lives
But we never forgot those days
And never got too old for the crazy

When the boss says, “Hey, do me a favor”
I still say hey man, in a sec
The spreadsheets and reports can come later
First thing’s first, I’m talkin’ to me friend
If it’s a coworker, customer or maybe a neighbor
First thing’s first, I’m talkin’ to my friend
“Hey,” the guy said, “can you write me a check?”
Hey man, you heard me – in a sec

I’ve lost some pictures from back in the day
I’ve lost my mind again and again
I’ve lost some friends who’ve passed away
But I haven’t lost touch with any of them

My buddy Smiley called me late last night
He said, “Hey, bro, there’s a boot on my neck
I’m in a mess, there’s no help in sight”
I said get ready – I’ll be there in a sec

When my buddy says, “You know what, I need a favor”
I say hey man – in a sec
The spreadsheets and reports can come later
First thing’s first, I got a friends in need
Clear the roads, my truck is on fire
Get atta my way, I got a friend who bleeds
Blood that’s a bond that stretches across an empire
Don’t get in my way, I got a friend indeed
Don’t worry, my man – you’ll get atta this wreck
Take a deep breath – I’ll be there in a sec
I got your back man – what’d you expect?
Just count to One – I’ll be there in a sec
Take a deep breath, buddy
I’ll be there in a sec
